Suspected DUI Driver Hits Woman & Child in Venice

In the eyes of the law, there is no excuse for someone to leave the crash scene after an accident. This is true, especially if someone is injured in an accident. Drivers are required to remain at the scene of an accident involving damage, injury, or fatality until released by law enforcement officers.

Patch.com recently reported on its website that a suspected DUI driver is being held in connection to a crash involving a woman and her child in Venice on Friday, August 6, 2021.

A spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department said in a statement that the incident happened at approximately 8:45 a.m. at the intersection of Speedway and Galleon Street when a black sedan struck a woman who was pushing a stroller with her child in it.

Emergency crews and paramedics were called to the scene to treat a mother and her child of an undisclosed age. Both the woman and child were transported to an area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

No further information was released at the time of the report about their current condition.

Eyewitnesses to the incident told LAPD officers that the driver did attempt to flee the scene of the crash. While trying to flee, the driver struck a utility pole, disabling his vehicle.

Police officers at the scene arrested the unnamed driver on suspicion of intoxication by either alcohol or drugs.

The accident is still currently under investigation.
