Suspected DUI Driver Crashes Into CHP Building in San Diego County

It’s a well-known fact that anytime someone gets behind the wheel after drinking, they risk getting caught, or worse, getting into an accident. On Sunday, November 7, 2021, one suspected DUI driver in San Diego managed to get caught when they crashed their vehicle into a building belonging to the California Highway Patrol. 

Fox5 in San Diego reports that the incident happened at approximately 12:30 a.m. when a vehicle crashed into a California Highway Patrol checkpoint located along Interstate 5 near Camp Pendleton.

A spokesperson for the CHP said in a statement that the driver veered off the road and onto the offramp before slamming into the building. According to a CHP officer at the scene, a group of officials had been at the facility at the time when they heard the crash.

CHP officers and crew members rushed out to see a vehicle that had caught fire after it appeared to have bounced off the brick building. The driver had managed to escape the burning car by the time CHP officials got there.

According to an incident statement, the driver suffered only minor injuries in the collision. After a series of field sobriety tests, the driver was placed under arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. 

The incident is still currently under investigation. No further information was released at the time of the report.
