Suspected DUI Driver Arrested After Police Pursuit

Choosing to get behind the wheel while under the influence of alcohol or drugs is considered a criminal offense in any state in our country. Fines,  jail time, and losing your license can be a real fear if you are caught driving while intoxicated.

It’s easy to give in to the fight or flight response that most of us feel when we realize we are in trouble. This is especially true when we look up and see red and blue flashing lights in the rearview mirror. Attempting to run or lead law enforcement officers on a chase can only worsen any charges. CountyNews.TV reports that’s what happened when a Santa Ana driver was arrested after a police pursuit on Tuesday, March 22.

According to a statement released by the Santa Ana Police Department, at approximately 9:19 p.m., officers spotted the driver of a silver Volkswagen hatchback displaying erratic driving habits near the intersection of South Bristol and West Segerstrom Avenue. When the officers attempted to pull the vehicle over, the driver refused to yield.

The driver of the Volkswagen headed southbound on Segerstrom as the street transitioned into Dyer Road. During the pursuit, the suspect turned around at Red Hill Avenue and came to a stop at an apartment complex located in the 1900 block of East Dyer Road.

Officials say the pursuit came to an end at approximately 9:24 p.m. The officers took the suspect driver into custody on the charges of suspicion of driving under the influence and felony evading.

So far, his identity has not been released.
