Suspected DUI Driver Arrested After Airborne Crash Into OC Motel

The Orange County Register reports that a suspected DUI driver propelled his BMW over the side of an off-ramp on the 91 Freeway in Buena Park earlier this week. The airborne vehicle came to a rest when it crashed into a Quality Inn Motel.

The California Highway Patrol said in a statement that the crash happened at approximately 11:10 p.m. when a 2019 BMW traveling southbound on the freeway took the Beach Boulevard exit ramp. 

Investigators say that the driver was traveling at an unknown rate of speed when they failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway. 

The BMW crashed through the barricade, sending it airborne in a scene closely a video game. The vehicle then crashed into several freeway signs and a chain-link fence before running into the first story of the Quality Inn, located at 7555 Beach Boulevard. 

Emergency crews were summoned to the scene. There were no reported injuries to the driver of the BMW or to any of the guests or staff at the motel. 

The driver of the BMW was placed under arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.  

Authorities have not yet released the identity of the driver.
