Suspected DUI Crash Leaves One Dead in Oceanside

There is nothing wrong with going out and celebrating with friends on the weekend. Even in situations where alcohol is served, it’s assumed that most adults will act responsibly and not drink and drive. Drinking and driving put the person behind the wheel at risk and those in the same vehicle with them.

According to a recent story appearing on the San Diego Union-Tribune website, that seems to be what happened early Sunday, November 14, 2021, when a driver crashed his car into a tree. The driver was killed, and a passenger was left severely injured

The Oceanside Police Department said in a statement to reporters that at approximately 7:00 a.m., the driver was heading northbound on North Avenue near the intersection of North and Autumn Drive when he crossed all lanes of traffic and up onto the south embankment of the road and struck a tree.

When police and paramedics arrived at the scene of the crash, the driver was declared dead at the scene. A male passenger who had been in the front seat at the time suffered serious injuries in the crash. He was taken to an area hospital for treatment. The passenger’s identity and current condition were not released at the time of the report.

Investigators believe that the deceased driver was intoxicated at the time of the accident

The crash is currently under investigation.
