Sleepy Driver With Two Kids In Car Accused Of DWI

A mother from Santa Clarita is facing serious charges after allegedly driving drunk with her two children in the car with her. CBS Los Angeles reports.

A witness found the woman falling asleep at a stop light aroun 6:30 p.m. last Sunday. The witness contacted the authoriites and gave a report. Officers found the woman near Whites Canyon Road and Soledad Canyon Road.

Police found an infant on the woman’s lap and a 5-year-old in the back seat with no seatbelt. The driver was starting to fall asleep again.

When they tested the woman for alcohol, they found her three times over the legal limit. She is being held on $200,000 bail. Thankfully, she had not crashed.

If these allegations are true, then it’s quite likely the lives of these children were saved. A crash under these kinds of conditions would seriously injure or even kill them. Every year children die from drunk driving accidents where they had no control over their circumstances.

If you drive with children in the car, it is best if you avoid all alcohol. Even if you are technically sober by a breath test, you’re still lowering your ability to drive when you take your first drink. The lives of your children are not worth a bit of alcohol.
