Single Vehicle Crash Leaves Suspected DUI Motorist Seriously Injured

According to California law, a young person can legally consume alcohol. Most believe that is the age when someone is mature enough to handle the responsibility of drinking responsibly. Unfortunately, San Diego authorities suspect a 21-year-old man of DUI after he crashed his car along State Route 94 at an exit ramp in an Oak Park neighborhood.

The Times of San Diego reports that according to a statement by the California Highway Patrol, the crash happened at approximately 1:45 a.m. on Monday, January 9, near the westbound Euclid Avenue off-ramp.

10 News in San Diego reported that the BMW sedan careened off the freeway exit and down an embankment. The car continued until it struck a tree with enough force almost to cleave it in half.

California Highway Patrol Office Jessie Matias told reporters that no other vehicles were involved in the crash.

The driver was taken to an area hospital to be treated for major injuries. He was later arrested on suspicion of DUI. So far, authorities have not released the name of the suspect.

A 27-year-old woman was riding in the vehicle as a passenger but was uninjured in the crash.
