Santa Monica DUI Wreaks Dining Havoc

CBS Channel 2 / KCAL Channel 9 CBS Los Angeles Local News reported recently that a tragic motor vehicle accident occurred in which a driver allegedly under the influence of alcohol or narcotics crashed into the outdoor seating area of a popular local cafe on the evening of Friday, February 12, 2021. 

According to a news release issued by the Santa Monica Police Department , the incident took place between 7:50 p.m. and 8:15 p.m. Pacific Standard Time on Friday, February 12, 2021 at Urth Caffe on the 2300 block of Main Street in Santa Monica, CA. A woman from Pacific Palisades, 21 years of age, was arrested for felony driving under the influence (DUI) due to her role in the accident. 

The preliminary investigation indicated that the suspect had been driving north on Main Street around 8 pm Friday when she lost control of her vehicle and struck a portion of the concrete barrier surrounding the outdoor dining area of Urth Caffe, driving the K-beam into the dining area and sending tables and chairs flying as diners scrambled to avoid the carnage. Several people sustained minor injuries, and at least one was medically transported to a local hospital with more severe injuries. The suspect’s vehicle, which appeared to be a BMW, had severe front-end damage.
