Possible DUI Motorcyclist Killed in Chula Vista

The Times of San Diego reports a 21-year-old motorcyclist is dead after he crashed his bike at a high rate of speed into a Metropolitan Transit Authority Bus in Chula Vista.

Sgt. Anthony Molina with the Chula Vista Police Department said in a statement that the fatal crash happened at approximately 10:30 p.m. at the Third and Orange Avenues intersection.

Eyewitnesses to the incident said that a motorcycle traveling at a high rate of speed blew through a red light and entered the intersection. The motorcyclist lost control and crashed into the side of the Metro Transit Authority bus. 

Paramedics responding to the collision found the 21-year-old biker unresponsive. He was declared dead at the scene. Authorities in Chula Vista have not released the identity of the victim pending notification of family members. 

No one on board the bus at the time was injured in the crash.

Sgt. Molina said that while speed was most likely a contributing factor in the fatal crash, a toxicology report to determine whether the motorcyclist was intoxicated is pending.
