Police Pursue DUI Suspect

Channel 4 NBC Los Angeles News reported recently that a police chase in the San Gabriel Valley area last Saturday evening that involved the Los Angeles Police Department and the California Highway Patrol was allegedly sparked by the driver being under the influence of alcohol.

According to officials from the California Highway Patrol and the Los Angeles Police Department, the incident began around 10:00 p.m. Pacific Standard Time (PST) on Saturday, January 24, 2021 in west LA when LAPD units pursued a gray Chrysler PT Cruiser for suspected DUI. They pulled off the chase, but California Highway Patrol units began pursuit on the northbound 5 Freeway, averaging a speed of 50 to 60 miles per hour.

The PT Cruiser then merged onto the 10 Freeway eastbound toward Alhambra, dodging a spike strip deployed in Lincoln Heights before finally coming to a halt in El Sereno at the intersection of Huntington Drive and North Mission Road. The driver turned off the car but did not emerge and surrender until seven minutes later. He was taken into custody at 10:57 p.m., with a female passenger arrested shortly thereafter.

No information was released on the identity of the suspects or other details of the incident.
