Police Officer on Suspension Involved in DUI Motorcycle Crash in Seaside

Mercury News reports that a Seaside police officer on paid leave was recently involved in a DUI crash in Grover Beach. The accident left that officer and a female passenger seriously injured.

The officer has been identified as 43-year-old Alex Sahkrani. The Seaside Police Department confirmed to reporters that Sahkrani was on paid leave pending an investigation of an undisclosed incident.

This is not the first time that Sahkrani has been in trouble for driving while under the influence. In September, he pleaded no contest to the charges against him for a hit-and-run in April of this year.

Court documents indicate that on April 12, 2021, surveillance video captured Officer Sahkrani leaving the Elk’s Lodge in his Toyota Tundra, jumping a curb and plowing through the yard and retaining wall of a home before crashing into several parked vehicles.

Sahkrani, a 16-year police veteran, was sentenced to 10 days in jail and one year of probation. The officer was also ordered to pay for damages to the people whose vehicles and the property were damaged in the incident. The judge also ordered that Sahkrani was not to consume alcohol during his probation.

The latest accident happened on Sunday, September 26, at approximately 7:45 p.m. as Sahkrani was cresting a hill on his Harley Davidson Motorcycle near the interchange of 4th Street in Grover Beach and Highway 101. Sahkrani lost control of his motorcycle, ejecting both himself and his passenger onto the pavement.

Both Officer Sahkrani and his unidentified female passenger were transported to an area hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

The case has been forwarded to the San Luis Obispo County District Attorney’s Office.
