A quick search of YouTube and you can find any number of people filming themselves driving with their feet. While this may prove to be amusing, at least momentarily, it can be extremely dangerous. Filming it can also lead to the authorities determining that a person might be driving under the influence. NBC Los Angeles reports on a driver who was arrested after a post to Snapchat pictured him driving with his feet.
Then 20-year-old Victor Canasmoreira was driving south on Bouquet Canyon Road on February 12th when he crossed the yellow line. At the time, he was speeding and was struck broadside by a sedan. He had three passengers in his vehicle at the time of the accident.
The drivers of both cars and the three passengers all suffered various injuries ranging from minor abrasions to a fractured clavicle.
After the accident, authorities received information that one of the passengers had filmed Canasmoreira driving with his feet shortly before the collision.
The sheriff’s department collected blood samples from the drivers. Both tested negative for drugs. However, Canasmoreira tested with a .05% alcohol level. Because he was under the legal drinking age of 21, he was arrested on suspicion of DUI and causing great bodily harm.
Canasmoreira turned 21 on April 2nd according to the sheriff’s department.
He is facing prosecution and is being held in lieu of $100,000 bond.
