In Rowland Heights, California, a man stands accused of DUI after striking a woman trying to cross the street.

Yussef Hadi Afra is charged with felony drunken driving. The 23-year old struck a woman at about 7 pm on Batson Road. This is according to CHP officials and Los Angeles County booking records. The accident occurred on Tuesday, February 16th. As of Wednesday, the woman’s identity remained unknown. She was officially listed as “Jane Doe.”

Investigators state that Afra was driving a 2015 Honda Civic northbound on Batson Avenue. The unknown woman was crossing west across the roadway. Afra struck the woman, who sustained major injuries. She was rushed to the hospital where she succumbed to those injuries a short time later.

CHP spokesperson, Tim Zaspal stated that Afra was arrested for being under the influence of drugs. It was unclear at the time exactly what kind of drugs he was under the influence of at the time of the accident.

Afra was taken to a local hospital for examination. Afterwards, Afra was booked into jail. He is being held in lieu of $100,000 bond according to county records.
