Passenger In East LA DUI Wreck Dies

A serious accident in East Los Angeles recently involving several teenagers and a metro bus has reportedly had even more tragic consequences in the aftermath, according to reporting from The Eastsider Los Angeles.

The accident occurred at 10:45 a.m. last Wednesday near the intersection of Whittier Boulevard and Downey Road. The California Highway Patrol’s investigation indicates that a seventeen-year-old boy was driving a 2000 Volkswagen Beetle headed south on Downey Road and ran a red light, then collided with a Metro bus headed east on Whittier Boulevard and subsequently collided into a traffic light pole. Two seventeen-year-old girls were passengers in his car and both sustained major injuries; they both had to be extricated from the twisted metal remains of the vehicle. Ten passengers on the bus sustained minor injuries.

The driver sustained minor injuries and was arrested for driving under the influence (DUI) but was released into the custody of his parents pending criminal charges. Now, although the California Highway Patrol has not commented, social media postings from friends and family of one of the injured girls indicate she has passed away from her injuries in the wreck. The other passenger, reportedly her twin sister, was in critical condition when they arrived at the hospital but her current condition is unknown.
