Pasadena Wreck Kills Pedestrian; Alcohol Reportedly Involved

Pasadena Now reported recently on a fatal accident in Pasadena late on Friday that was allegedly the fault of a drunken driver.

The accident occurred around 11:30 p.m. on Friday, October 23 on Washington Boulevard near the intersection with Palm Terrace, according to a spokesperson from the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner’s office. The Pasadena Police Department reported that a pedestrian was crossing Washington Boulevard at the unmarked intersection when he was struck by a sport-utility vehicle (SUV) headed westbound.

Responding paramedics declared the victim dead at the scene of the accident. The driver who hit him, a 48-year-old Pasadena man, remained at the accident site and police believed him to be under the influence of alcohol. He was taken into custody and booked on suspicion of murder. 

According to records from the Los Angeles County Superior Court, the man had previously been convicted of charges including DUI and reckless driving in 2003, 1999, and 1995. Under California law, repeat DUI offenders are eligible for murder charges for subsequent DUI-related collisions that result in death.
