Officer with the Bakersfield Police Department Arrested for DUI

It doesn’t matter who you are; if a person chooses to get behind the wheel after consuming alcohol, they stand the chance of facing a DUI charge. A veteran police officer with the Bakersfield Police Department found that out the hard way over the weekend.

According to a recent story on the Yahoo! News website, a Bakersfield Police Department detective is now facing a DUI charge after being arrested on Saturday night. 

According to the statement released by the BPD on Saturday, March 26, at approximately 2:10 a.m., Detective Louis Rodriguez was off duty when he crashed a city-owned vehicle into an unoccupied, parked vehicle along Scarlet Belle Court in Northwest Bakersfield.

California Highway Patrol officers responded to the scene and placed Rodriguez under arrest on the charge of misdemeanor driving under the influence of alcohol.

Bakersfield Police Department spokesman Sgt. Robert Pair and members of Rodriguez ‘s family confirmed his identity. The detective has been with the Bakersfield Police Department for 11 years. 

The California Highway Patrol did not confirm whether the off-duty detective was driving a police vehicle at the time of the crash.

Detective Rodriguez is currently on paid administrative leave while an internal investigation is conducted.
