Newhall Man Arrested For DUI, Car Theft

The Santa Clarita Valley Signal  reported recently on the arrest of a man on suspicion of DUI in the Newhall, CA area on Sunday, February 21, 2021 that also resulted in him facing charges of driving a stolen car. 

According to a news release issued by the Newhall Area Office of the California Highway Patrol,, the incident took place between 2:15 a.m. and 2:25 a.m. Pacific Standard Time (PST) on Sunday, February 21, 2021 on Newhall Avenue west of Highway 14. California Highway Patrol officers attempted to stop a young man from Newhall, 22 years of age, who was driving along Newhall Avenue. The driver accelerated the vehicle he was driving, a 1999 white Chevy Silverado pickup truck, away from the CHP patrol unit and attempted to flee. However, he failed to negotiate a curve in the road where Newhall Avenue transitioned to Railroad Avenue and lost control of the vehicle. It overturned, damaging a chain-link fence and some small trees.

The driver was taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital by Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel for treatment of a head laceration he sustained in the accident. He was determined to have been under the influence of alcohol and he was taken into custody. The vehicle was reported stolen, so he was also charged with the theft of the truck.
