Motorcyclist Suspected of DUI Leads Deputies on a Chase

KTLA in Los Angeles reports that Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies and the California Highway Patrol attempted to stop a motorcyclist for reckless driving and possibly driving under the influence of alcohol. Authorities say that the incident happened just after 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 7th.

A CHP officer told KTLA reporters that while the motorcyclist was initially being sought for speeding and reckless driving, officers felt it was possible that the biker had been driving under the influence due to the erratic nature of their driving of alcohol or drugs.

Law enforcement decided to break off the chase on the ground when the motorcyclist reached estimated speeds of over 80 miles per hour. Officers continued to monitor the motorcyclist from the air. Aerial footage shows the motorcyclist stopped at a gas station. The biker took the pump nozzle from another patron, filled up the tank on his bike, and took off once again.

At approximately 12:30 p.m., the motorcyclist entered a parking garage. Police and Sheriff’s deputies surrounded the garage, and one person was taken into custody.

Police chases are sometimes necessary, but they put the public at risk. We are glad that no one was hurt in the incident and that they found the speeding motorcyclist.
