Motorcyclist Dead After Suspected DUI Crash in Garden Grove

According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, some 5014 people lost their lives in motorcycle crashes in the United States in 2019. Even the most safety-conscious biker who takes every precaution to keep themselves and their passengers safe can find themselves in a dangerous situation. This is especially true when encountering another driver on the road who chooses to drink and drive.   

My News LA reports a motorcyclist was killed in a two-vehicle crash in Garden Grove in Orange County Saturday Evening.

According to a statement given by Garden Grove Police Department officer D. Mihalik, the fatal crash happened at approximately 6:30 p.m. at the intersection of Haster Street and Lampson Avenue. 

Investigators with the Garden Grove Police Department believe that the accident was likely caused by the driver of a van making an unsafe lane change in front of the motorcyclist, causing the biker to lose control of his vehicle.

Emergency crews with the Orange County Fire Authority responded to the crash and found the motorcyclist unresponsive. The motorcyclist was declared dead at the scene of the accident.

The driver of the van remained at the scene of the crash. After administering field sobriety tests to the van driver, police placed them under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and / or drugs.
