In an incident that the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department described in a statement as being “a complete disregard to public safety,” a suspected DUI driver and her friend were taken into custody over the weekend. Three children were in the vehicle at the time of their arrest.
Fox 11 in Los Angeles reports that San Bernardino County Sheriffs’ deputies pulled over a BMW at the intersection of Bartlett Avenue and Spruce Street on Saturday, July 17, at approximately 7:30 p.m.
During the traffic stop, the deputies at the scene reported that the driver, 29-year-old Tamara Cole, smelled strongly of alcohol. After getting out of the vehicle, Cole and her passenger, 22-year-old Darrieanna Jones, became confrontational with the deputies. The three children, ages 3 to five-years-old, remained in the back seat.
According to the statement, Cole refused to take sobriety tests. She was placed in the back of a Sheriff’s Department cruiser, where she allegedly kicked one of the deputies in the face.
Both Cole and Jones were placed under arrest. The children were released to the custody of relatives.
Cole is currently facing the charges of obstructing an executive officer, driving on a suspended license, driving under the influence of alcohol, and other charges related to the incident.
Jones is facing the charge of obstructing an executive officer.
No further information was available at the time of the report.
