Michael Phelps Shares Aftermath of his DUI Arrests

Michael Phelps

Sometimes even the fittest and those that would be considered the healthiest among us make poor decisions. Sometimes, that decision is to drink and drive. Michael Phelps, former Olympian, spoke to a crowd of supporters at last week’s Golden Goggle Awards. Phelps was there to accept the Male Athlete of the Year Award. He spoke about the previous year being full of ups and downs.

It certainly has been full of highs and lows for Phelps. He had been arrested for DUI twice. Because of this, he spent time in treatment and a six-month suspension from competing in the sport which made him a household name.

Phelps went on to say that he was happy to be in the pool again and actually enjoying the sport. He admitted to having been ‘checked out’ previously. He thanked his supporters, telling them, “Without you, I don’t know if I would be alive today.”

Phelps does have much to celebrate. He and his fiancee are planning a wedding. They are also expecting a baby boy next summer.

Michael Phelps holds 18 gold, 2 silver, and 2 bronze medals. All were realized while competing in Olympic events for the United States Swimming Team.
