Man Arrested in Connection with Hit and Run that Involved Officer

A driver responsible for a hit-and-run collision that injured a California Highway Patrol officer has been arrested on suspicion of DUI.

Officer L. Flores had been directing traffic around a non-injury accident when 76-year old Prashant Amin struck the officer while driving his 2013 Cadillac XTS.  Prashant allegedly fled the scene of the accident.

A tow truck driver that had been summoned to assist the first accident came in to assist Officer Flores. He used his CB radio to report that the officer had been struck and gave a description of the vehicle.The daughter of the tow truck driver also caught the license plate of Prashant’s car.

Police later caught up with Prashant and pulled him over. Prashant was arrested on charges of driving under the influence of a  drug and also charged with hit-and-run.  

Flores was not believed to have suffered life-threatening injuries in the accident.  She was taken by helicopter to a nearby hospital.
