Lyft Driver Killed in DUI Accident

There are many ways to avoid driving drunk after you have imbibed. One way is to have a designated driver. Another way is to hire a cab or take a bus. Yet another, increasingly popular way, is to use a service like Uber or Lyft.

On New Year’s Day in Hawthorne, California, a 21-year old driver was killed when he was struck by another 21-year old driver. The driver who lost his life was working for Lyft at the time of the accident.

The driver who lost his life was identified as Thor Anderson, who was broadsided at about 2:55 am on New Year’s Day. The accident occurred near 120th Street and Doty Avenue.

The driver of the other vehicle, identified as Arturo Martinez Conchas, collided with Anderson’s 2015 Ford Fusion with his 2003 Infiniti Coupe. Conchas was arrested under suspicion of vehicular manslaughter, driving under the influence of alcohol, and possession of illegal drugs.

Regrettably, Anderson died at the scene. In speaking with his family, they reported how excited he was to be working on New Year’s Eve because he would make a lot of money. He had plans to meet his father for breakfast. Dozens gathered at the site of the accident, placing flowers and pink moustaches at the curb. Pink moustaches were part of Lyft’s original branding.

Conchas was taken to jail after being treated at the hospital. He is being held on $100,000 bond. No details about Conchas’ attorney were available.
