Los Angeles Woman Charged With Manslaughter After DUI Accident Kills Local Resident

A fatal DUI accident in Tehachapi, California, a small city about thirty-five miles east of Bakersfield and twenty miles west of Mojave, claimed the life of a local resident Friday morning. The driver was arrested and has been charged with felony DUI and manslaughter charges as a result of the accident. 

KGET.com reports that a Los Angeles woman was driving her Nissan Sentra on Tehachapi Willow Springs Road, headed southbound. At approximately 5:15 am, she collided head-on with another Sentra just south of Highline Road. The driver of the other Sentra was severely injured by the impact and, despite the best efforts of EMS responders arriving to the location, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. 

Authorities stated that the first driver was driving under the influence of alcohol, and she was arrested on-scene. The driver was arrested immediately at the site of the accident and is facing felony charges of driving under the influence (DUI) and manslaughter. 

No other details surrounding the identity of the victim were released by investigators. 

The crash still remains under investigation. The California Highway Patrol has asked that anyone with additional information call their Mojave area office at (661) 823-5500.
