Los Angeles Man Arraigned in Suspected DUI Hit-and-Run Crash

According to a recent article on The Orange County Register website, a 47-year-old Los Angeles County man was charged on Tuesday, April 18, for his role in a suspected DUI hit-and-run crash in Newport Beach in July. The collision left a motorcyclist seriously injured.

In a press release, the Newport Beach Police Department said that Nery Lopez, a resident of Cudahy in Los Angeles County, was arraigned on numerous charges, including felony hit-and-run with injury and felony DUI. Lopez pleaded not guilty to all charges against him.

The crash happened on July 30, 2022, when Lopez was allegedly driving his silver Jeep near the intersection of 26th Street and Balboa Boulevard and lost control of his vehicle. The jeep crashed into a motorcyclist and several parked vehicles before Lopez jumped out of his crashed SUV and fled the scene on foot.

Authorities have not stated the motorcyclist’s current condition; however, they did tell the court that the victim is aware that Lopez had been arrested in relation to the crash. No further details about the victim’s age, identity, or gender were available at the time of the report.

Court documents indicate that an Orange County judge has set Lopez’s bond at $100,000. He is currently being held at the Theo Lacy Facility in Orange.
