Patch reported recently that the Los Angeles Police Department will hold a series of DUI checkpoints this weekend in several neighborhoods including Sherman Oaks.
“Checkpoint locations are chosen based on a history of DUI crashes and arrests,” LAPD said in a statement. “The primary purpose of checkpoints is not to make arrests, but to promote public safety by deterring drivers from driving impaired. During the checkpoint, officers will look for signs that drivers are under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.”
LAPD offered the following tips for drivers to stay safe on the roads.”See someone who is clearly impaired try to drive? Take the keys and help them make other arrangements to find a sober way home.”
Funding for the DUI checkpoints comes from a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
“The safety of our community is and always will be our mission,” LAPD officials said in a statement. “We are still out there looking for impaired drivers because driving under the influence is still dangerous.” Find the full list of checkpoints below.
