Fox News reports that the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) announced on Friday that it had dismissed any further investigation of Anne Heche on the charge of felony DUI.
“As of today, there will be no further investigative efforts made in this case,” LAPD Officer Norma Eisenman told reporters.
“Any information or records that have been requested prior to this turn of events will be collected as they arrive as a matter of formalities and included in the overall case,” Eisenman continued. “When a person suspected of a crime expires, we do not present for filing consideration.”
Heche was declared brain-dead on Friday, August 12. On Sunday, Heche was removed from life support.
Following a fiery crash in Mar Vista last week, Heche suffered severe burns and a severe pulmonary injury that required a ventilator. Doctors say that she would have also needed surgical intervention due to the burns that covered most of her body.
The 53-year-old actress suffered a severe anoxic brain injury and was comatose at the Grossman Burn Center in West Hills. Representatives for Heche said that she was kept alive for the opportunity to donate her organs through the OneLegacy Foundation.
On behalf of the attorneys and staff of our firm, we would like to offer our heartfelt condolences to Ms. Heche’s sons, family, and loved ones at this difficult time.
