LA Holds DUI Checkpoints Over Weekend

Channel 2 / KCAL Channel 9 CBS Los Angeles News reported recently that the Los Angeles Police Department plans to hold checkpoints on the evenings of Friday, January 22 and Saturday, January 23 looking for drivers who are driving under the influence (DUI.)

According to officials with the Los Angeles Police Department, the department will be conducting a series of checkpoints throughout the city on Friday and Saturday nights in an attempt to cut down on the number of impaired drivers on the road. The checkpoints are scheduled to take place between 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. both nights at locations that were selected based on their history of DUI crashes and arrests. 

LAPD officials reminded the public that impaired driving can happen while under the influence of marijuana or prescription medications, not only alcohol.

On Friday, checkpoints will be set up at Manchester Avenue and Figueroa Street in South Los Angeles, in addition to Lincoln Boulevard and Maxella Avenue in the Marina Del Rey area.

On Saturday, checkpoints will be established at Sepulveda Boulevard and Rayen Street in North Hills, Western Avenue and 39th Street in South Los Angeles, and at Western Avenue and Venice Boulevard in Harvard Heights.
