Indio Man Killed in Suspected DUI Crash
My News LA reported on Sunday that a 23-year-old Indio man was killed in the early morning hours of Saturday, September 11, 2021, in Desert Hot Springs.
Officials say that just after 12:00 a.m., the man had been riding as a passenger in a vehicle with a female driver along Palma Drive pulled her vehicle to a stop between the right lane and the right shoulder of the roadway.
The driver and the man were getting ready to trade places when an oncoming pickup truck struck him as he was standing in the right lane of the road.
The driver of the pickup truck did not stop after hitting the man.
A spokesperson for the California Highway Patrol (CHP) told reporters that they called emergency crews to the scene to administer help to the man, a former Shadow Hills High School Student and football player.
Despite all lifesaving attempts, the man died of his injuries at the scene of the crash. The Riverside County Coroner’s Office estimates that the man died approximately 15 minutes after being hit.
CHP officers located the vehicle that struck the victim a short distance away. Officers determined that the driver had been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the fatal crash.
The accident is still currently under investigation.
