Huntington Beach Bicyclist Killed Suspected DUI Driver

The Los Angeles Times reports that a Huntington Beach man on an e-bike was killed by a suspected DUI driver on Tuesday, August 9.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Department said in the statement that the fatal crash happened at approximately 6:00 p.m. near the intersection of Pacific Coast Highway and Admiralty Drive in Huntington Beach. 

Investigators say that a 2018 Toyota Rav4 collided with a 42-year-old man on an eBike who was also traveling southbound. 

Huntington Beach Police Department officers responding to the scene found the victim lying on the pavement. Paramedics rushed the man to an area hospital in critical condition. He later died from the injuries he received in the crash.

The driver of the Rav4, 70-year-old Barbara Front, remained at the scene of the crash and cooperated with police. During their investigation, Officers suspected that the Front had been driving while under the influence of alcohol. She was taken into custody at approximately 7:40 p.m.

A multi-disciplinary force within the Huntington Beach Police Department is currently investigating the fatal crash. Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident or might have additional information to contact traffic investigator Jeremy Rounds at (714) 536-5670.
