Four Year Sentence in DUI Homicide Case

A West Covina man just got very lucky in his DUI case, even though he has received four years in prison. The San Gabriel Valley Tribune explained the situation.

A little over a year ago, a man was jogging near La Puente Road and Barnard Avenue. He was struck from behind by a vehicle. He was carried on the vehicle’s hood for a short distance before the car crashed into a wall. The man was killed and the driver was charged with DUI.

The driver was also charged with gross vehicular manslaughter and murder. Prosecutors first thought that it was a deliberate attack. However, they couldn’t identify a motive and neither man knew the other prior to the collision. So they had to go with the lesser charge. The driver was successfully convicted and sentenced to four years in prison.
