Four OC Sheriff’s Deputies Injured During Arrest of DUI Driver

KTLA reports that a DUI driver injured four deputies with the Orange County Sheriff’s Department while they were arresting another suspect in Yorba Linda on Tuesday.

According to a statement released by the law enforcement agency, the incident happened at approximately 12:30 a.m. near the intersection of Imperial Highway and Casa Loma Avenue.

The suspect driver was heading southbound on Imperial Highway in a red Ford pickup truck when he struck several patrol cruisers. The chain reaction caused one of the Sheriff’s cruisers to strike four deputies who were making a misdemeanor arrest at the time.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Department described the injuries of the four deputies as ranging from minor to moderate. All are expected to be ok.

The original misdemeanor suspect was in the back of one of the cruisers when the crash occurred. They also suffered minor injuries in the crash. 

The driver who struck the patrol vehicles was arrested on suspicion of DUI by the California Highway Patrol (CHP). His identity had not been released at the time of the report.

The accident is currently under investigation by both the Orange County Sheriff’s Department and the California Highway Patrol.
