Golf Cart

In the community of Thousand Palms, California last week, there were four fatalities in a suspected DUI crash.

Authorities report that a woman driving a Mercedes Benz SUV crashed into a golf cart. At the time of the accident, the driver was going at least twice the speed limit.

Angela Lavanty, 32, from Palm Desert, was booked into the Riverside County Jail and is being held without bond. Among the charges she is facing are two counts of second-degree murder, DUI, and causing great bodily injury. She was scheduled to make her first court appearance late last week.

The crash occurred at the intersection of Desert Moon and Colonial drives, located within the Tri-Palms Estate community. The golf cart was being driven legally within the community, where the speed limit is 25 m.p.h.

Lavanty struck the golf cart from behind, which threw the four occupants from the vehicle. Occupying the golf cart were two elderly individuals and two dogs. All sadly died at the scene. The victims identities have not been released, pending notification of the next of kin.
