A DUI accusation can have serious consequences. If that DUI accusation comes as a result of an accident, it can be even more severe. The family of the accused and the families of the victims both suffer the repercussions.

In Colton, California a firefighter of 37 years tragically lost his life after an alleged drunk driving accident. David Lodarski had been inspired to become a firefighter by his own father. He left behind a wife and two children. One of those children is following in his father’s footsteps as well.

Lodarski had been a captain for 25 years and was set to retire a week before the accident. His wife stated that her husband had been the only man that she had ever dated. When the accident occurred, Lodarski and his son were preparing to go off-roading. They were driving an ATV along Reche Canyon Road.

Video footage shows the ATV’s headlights as the vehicle impacted it from behind, sending Lodarski and the ATV into oncoming traffic. Paul Diehl is accused of being the driver of the other vehicle. Neighbors stated that the road is a speed zone and is problematic. He faces many charges, among them vehicular manslaughter and DUI causing death. Both are felonies.
