Fatal Crash in Lemoore

Alcohol consumption in moderation is fine for most people, as long as they have no health conditions where alcohol could cause problems. Yet there is no safe amount of alcohol consumption when you are pregnant. And, as always, drinking and driving is prohibited by law.

A man from Lemoore, California lost his life as the result of an accident that occurred the evening of May 20.

23-year-old Candice Ooley faces charges of felony DUI and vehicular manslaughter as a result of the accident.

Ooley, who was driving a Chevrolet Cruze northbound on Highway 41, rear-ended a Hummer H3 driven by the Lemoore man. The Hummer careened down an embankment, killing the driver and injuring passengers.

Ooley, who is pregnant, was booked into the Madera County Jail just after 4 a.m. She faces charges of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and other DUI offenses. Her bond has been set at $151,900.

There were three other passengers in the Hummer, all of whom were taken to area hospitals to receive treatment of their injuries. No children were involved in the accident.

Immediately following the accident, there was no news about the condition of Ooley or her unborn child.

Both California Highway Patrol officials and Madera County authorities were still investigating the accident. The cleanup lasted for hours following the collision.
