DUI Suspect Rams San Francisco Police Cruiser

According to a story appearing on the CBS San Francisco website, a suspected DUI motorist in a stolen Range Rover in the Twin Peaks area was being chased by San Francisco Police officers on Thursday, January 19, just before midnight. The suspect rammed the SUV into a police cruiser before taking off and plunging off a hillside and on top of a parked vehicle.

A spokesperson for the San Francisco Police Department told reporters that officers attempted to stop the motorist on suspicion of DUI. The driver refused to pull over and instead rammed a police cruiser. Assisting officers followed the suspect on a chase that wound through a Twin Peaks residential neighborhood.

The suspect and pursuing officers were on the east side of Twin Peaks when the driver drove the SUV off a steep hillside. The Range Rover landed on its side on top of a parked vehicle below the hill on Gardenside Drive.

Police caught up with the man, and paramedics were called to the scene. The unidentified driver was taken to an area hospital for treatment. His current condition was not released at the time of the report.

The suspect is expected to be arrested upon his release from the hospital.
