A woman suspected of DUI was fatally shot by police officers in Torrance, California. What began with a call about reckless driving ended with shots fired Monday, October 31st.
Torrance Police officers received several calls regarding a reckless driver at about 2:25 p.m near to Arlington and Post Avenues. The driver – identified only as a female in her 30s – was traveling on the wrong side of the road. She narrowly missed hitting several vehicles.
By the time that police intercepted the car, the airbag had been deployed and there was exterior damage to the vehicle.
When she did not stop for police, a pursuit was engaged that made its way through residential areas and lasted for several minutes.
Police performed a PIT-maneuver to end the chase at the intersection of Sepulveda Boulevard and Cabrillo Avenue. Authorities then tried to pin the vehicle in.
Police officers exited their cars and ordered the woman to stop. She drove at police and rammed at least one police vehicle.
At least two officers opened fire, shooting into the woman’s vehicle.
The woman was wounded. Officers attempted to revive her with CPR, but she later died at the hospital. Her name was not mentioned in the original press report. At least one police officer suffered moderate injuries as a result of the incident.
