DUI Pursuit Ends With Suspect In Custody

KTLA Channel 5 LA’s Very Own News reported recently that a lengthy police pursuit of a driver suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or other intoxicants in the San Gabriel Valley on the afternoon of Friday, April 23, 2021 ended in the arrest of the suspect.

According to officials with the California Highway Patrol, the incident began between 2:35 p.m. and 2:45 p.m. Pacific Standard Time (PST) on Friday, April 23, 2021 in Rialto, in the Inland Empire region, with a disturbance at a bar on the 400 block of West Valley Boulevard. A man reportedly refused to leave the establishment when asked; he had been drinking prior to being ejected. Rialto Police units attempted a traffic stop and the man refused to yield.

The California Highway Patrol took over the pursuit. The chase wound through the San Gabriel Valley, entering Orange County around 3:45 p.m. PST. Around 4:25 p.m. in Santa Ana, a CHP trooper conducted a successful pursuit intervention technique (PIT) maneuver, causing the pursued vehicle to spin out and bringing the pursuit to a halt. The man walked toward officers, then surrendered and was taken into custody near the intersection of East Fourth Street and Tustin Avenue.
