DUI Driver Suspected in Fatal Menifee Crash

According to a recent report appearing on the MyNewsLA website, one person was killed, and two others were seriously injured in a rollover crash in Menifee over the weekend. Alcohol is suspected in the crash.

Sgt. Matthew Bloch, a spokesperson for the Menifee Police Department, said that the crash happened at approximately 1:00 a.m. at the intersection of Goldenrod Avenue and Goetz Road. Investigators say that the driver of a Cadillac CTS was heading southbound on Goetz Road when he lost control of his vehicle at the intersection.

The car struck a curb, causing the car to become airborne and rollover. Sgt Bloch told reporters that the vehicle came to rest some 100 yards south of the original point of impact.

A teen passenger in the car’s back seat who was not wearing a seatbelt was ejected from the vehicle and onto the pavement. The unidentified man suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

At the time, a second passenger in the front seat suffered massive physical trauma. Paramedics pronounced the 20-year-old man dead at the scene.

The driver, a Menifee man, also suffered major injuries in the crash. He and the teen passenger were treated at a regional trauma center. The driver is expected to survive. Authorities had not released his identity at the time of the report.

A blood alcohol test taken at the hospital revealed that alcohol intoxication along with speed is likely a factor in the fatal crash.
