According to a story appearing on the Patch.com website, Police in Petaluma conducted DUI checkpoints to deter potential DUI, reckless or unlicensed drivers over the Halloween weekend. With the extra officers on duty, police arrested four drivers Saturday and early Sunday morning.
Police records show that the first suspected DUI arrest happened at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 30, 2021. Petaluma Police officers responded to a report of a wrong-way driver in the 100 block of Kentucky Street that had sideswiped another vehicle.
The two drivers exchanged insurance information; however, the crash victim told police that the driver appeared intoxicated as she left the scene.
Responding officers found the suspect driver a short distance away and agreed that she displayed signs of alcohol intoxication. After administering a Breathalyzer test, officers found that she had a blood-alcohol level that was nearly three times the legal amount of 0.08 percent. The unidentified driver was placed under arrest. She was later booked into the Sonoma County Jail.
The second arrest in Petaluma that night came just one hour later, at approximately 10:30 p.m. when officers observed the driver of a black Chevrolet Camaro driving at an unsafe speed on Lakeville Street near U.S. Highway 101. The driver continued driving recklessly until he was apprehended at Baywood Drive. He was arrested for DUI, operating a vehicle on a suspended license, and reckless driving
The third arrest came early Sunday morning at 1:00 a.m.when a woman was believed to be intoxicated after she drove out of an area at an unsafe speed.
The final DUI arrest came after a collision at the intersection of Lakeville and East D Street at approximately 1:20 a.m. intoxicated after a driver collided with a center median, then collided with a chain-link fence before landing on a set of train tracks just after 1:00 a.m. Investigators later determined she was driving under the influence of alcohol.
