Driver Who Crashed Into 30 Parked Cars Initially Suspected of DUI

What might have initially appeared to be a reckless driver under the influence ended up being a medical emergency instead.

NBC News reports that a driver lost control of his pickup truck in the Vermont Square neighborhood on early Tuesday, August 30.

The damage extended 5 or 6 blocks, from Vermont Avenue to 41st Street. Some of the residents were upset after seeing the damage to their vehicles, and many were upset, suspecting that the driver may have been intoxicated at the time of the crash.

The pickup truck suffered extensive damage, and eyewitnesses told police that the driver attempted to leave the scene, but bystanders prevented him from doing so.

Video footage collected at the scene shows paramedics took the driver to an area hospital for treatment. Officials did not make any further details immediately available.

No other injuries were reported in the incident.

In a statement later in the day, a Los Angeles Police Department spokesperson told reporters that investigators found that the driver had suffered an unspecified medical emergency just before the crash. The driver was not driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
