Driver Suspected of DUI Arrested on Manslaughter After Fatal DUI

CBS affiliate KPIX in San Jose reported that one person is dead after a suspected DUI crash in San Jose late Sunday night. 

A spokesperson for the San Jose Police Department said that the single-vehicle crash happened at approximately 11:46 p.m. near the intersection of South White Road and Castleton Drive.

Police dispatchers received a 911 report of the crash. San Jose Police officers responded to the scene and found a 2000 Toyota sedan occupied by a female driver and a male passenger.  

Investigators believe that the Toyota had been traveling northbound on South White Road when the driver lost control of the car. The vehicle left the roadway and crashed into a tree.

Paramedics responding to the scene rushed both the driver and passenger to an area hospital for treatment of injuries they suffered in the crash. Despite all efforts by doctors and emergency personnel, the passenger died shortly after he arrived at the trauma center.

The unidentified female driver also suffered injuries and cooperated with investigators. During the investigation, officers noted that she displayed symptoms of intoxication. 

Authorities say that immediately following her release from the hospital, she will be arrested and booked into Santa Clara County Jail on the charges of gross vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence of alcohol.
