Drake Bell Formally Charged with DUI

When a celebrity gets a DUI, it all to often ends up in the news. What we must remember is that celebrities are humans and they make human mistakes, like driving after drinking. Being a celebrity does not excuse their actions, however, and some must eventually pay for their crime.

Actor Drake Bell has formally been charged with misdemeanor DUI following an arrest back in December. The actor, best known for his role on the Nickelodeon show Drake and Josh, had been speeding and swerving when he was pulled over by police.

Bell as arrested on December 21st, 2015. He was later released on $20,000 bond. At the time of his arrest, Bell refused to take a chemical test at the scene of his arrest last month. Under California law, this can result in stiffer penalties for DUI, if convicted.

This isn’t the first time that the actor has been charged with DUI. He had been previously convicted in 2010 for a 2009 arrest. California law also provides for stiffer penalties if a person receives more than one DUI within ten years.

A second DUI conviction within 10 years of the previous conviction carries a minimum sentence of 4 days in county jail under California law.

Bell’s court hearing is scheduled for March 21st, 2016.

Meanwhile, the show must go on. Bell’s website reports that he will be touring Mexico with his musical act. He has stops in Mexico City, Guadalajara, and Monterrey scheduled next month.
