Disney Employee Struck and Killed by Alleged DUI Driver

When people think of Disney, they think of Mickey Mouse, Disneyland, and perhaps now, Marvel and Star Wars. The Walt Disney Co., located in Burbank, California, was near the site of tragedy as one of its employees was struck and killed by an alleged drunk driver. ABC 7 reports that the employee was walking to work and was crossing the street in a marked crosswalk when the incident occurred.

The incident occurred last Thursday morning at around 9 a.m. at Alameda Avenue and Lincoln Street just outside the gate at a Disney lot.

The woman was walking to work and utilizing a marked crosswalk according to authorities when she was struck by an allegedly intoxicated driver.

The vehicle hit three other cars after striking the woman. The woman was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Two male occupants of the vehicle were detained by police. Police also say that drugs and/or alcohol appear to be a factor in the collision. Police arrested 37-year-old Stergios Economos of Burbank in connection with the accident.

Economos was arrested on charges of vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.

He is being held on $100,000 bond and was due in court in Burbank yesterday, September 10th.

The identity of the woman who was killed was not immediately released pending notification of next of kin.
