A car accident involving a DUI has far-reaching consequences. In many cases, if an accident is involved, the charges and penalties can be substantially increased. This can be compounded if serious injury or death results from the accident.

On February 25, a Davis, California man was arrested following an accident that claimed the life of a 71-year old woman.

Steven Hendrix, 32, was arrested and was behind bars as police officers investigated the crash that occurred.

David Police Lt. Tom Waltz reported, “The information that we have is that he was driving at an extremely high rate of speed and that he was driving very erratically.”

71-year old Cynthia Jonasen was driving in the opposite direction as Hendrix. As she made a left turn from Cantill to Second, Hendrix’s car slammed into hers.

Hendrix was not alone in his vehicle. In the car with Hendrix were four juveniles and two other adults.

Jonasen died as a result of the injuries she sustained in the crash. Hendrix and his passengers were taken to area hospitals to be treated for their injuries. Hendrix was arrested following receiving treatment.

Hendrix faces charges of vehicular manslaughter, DUI resulting in death, and child endangerment charges.
