Costa Mesa DUI Wreck Kills Teen

NBC Channel 4 Los Angeles reported recently that a man has been arrested for suspicion of DUI following a motor vehicle accident Sunday in which he allegedly caused the death of a young lad in Costa Mesa.

A parolee from Long Beach, 59 years of age is being held without bail, according to jail records from the area, with a court date scheduled for Tuesday, December 8. Officials with the Costa Mesa Police Department say the wreck occurred on Sunday between 5:45 p.m. and 6:00 p.m., when the man was driving a pickup truck eastbound on Arlington Drive at the intersection of Arlington and Junipero Drive. A young boy 12 years of age and the boy’s father were riding bicycles along the road.

The pickup driver ran the stop sign at the intersection and struck the young boy. A bystander attempted CPR, and police officers also provided first aid prior to the boy being taken to the hospital, but the boy succumbed to his wounds after being transported to the hospital. The truck driver was arrested at the scene of the accident, as was his passenger, an Artesia woman 56 years of age, who was booked on suspicion of possession of controlled substances and unlawful paraphernalia.
