Costa Mesa DUI Accident Hurts Two

NBC Local News Los Angeles reported recently on a crash in Costa Mesa, CA on Sunday, February 21, 2021 in which an allegedly intoxicated young man allegedly struck a pedestrian and then allegedly struck another vehicle, injuring at least two people. 

According to a news release issued by the Costa Mesa Police Department, the incident took place between 1:30 a.m. and 2:00 a.m. Pacific Standard Time (PST)  on Sunday, February 21, 2021 along Newport Boulevard near the intersection of Newport Boulevard and 19th Street as well as the intersection of Newport Boulevard and Harbor Boulevard. A man from Maywood, 22 years of age, was driving south along Newport Boulevard when he ran the red light at the Newport Boulevard and 19th Street, then continued on to strike a pedestrian at Harbor Boulevard. He then slammed into another vehicle, causing his own vehicle to roll over. 

Paramedics rushed the pedestrian and the driver of the other vehicle to nearby hospitals, but their current condition is unknown. The suspect was uninjured and was arrested on suspicion of DUI. 

The southbound lanes of Newport Boulevard remained closed until approximately 10:00 a.m. Sunday morning for cleanup and the investigation, which remains in progress.
