Coachella DUI Driver With Child in the Car Arrested Following Crash

KTLA reports that a 22-year-old Coachella man has been arrested on the charge of driving while intoxicated after he crashed his vehicle into a utility pole and a fence early Sunday.

According to a statement released by the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, the crash happened at approximately 12:35 a.m. near Avenue 53 and Tyler Street intersection in Coachella when the driver, Alexander Felix, lost control of his pickup truck. The vehicle crashed into a fence and then into a light pole, where it came to a rest.

Riverside County Sheriff’s Department deputies responded to the scene and found Felix and his 2-year-old son. Deputies found the toddler had been riding in the back seat unrestrained.  The child suffered minor injuries and was taken to an area hospital for treatment.

No other injuries were reported in the crash.

Deputies conducted field sobriety tests with Felix and found that he had been driving under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.

Felix was arrested and taken to the John Benoit Detention Center in Indio. He is facing both charges of DUI and child endangerment, though he had not appeared before a judge at the time of the report.
