Charges Upgraded In Huntington Beach DUI Case

My News LA reported recently that a man from Costa Mesa, charged in connection with a drug-related collision in Huntington Beach, will now face upgraded charges in the case after the victim succumbed to injuries sustained in the accident. 

According to officials with the Huntington Beach Police Department, the accident occurred between 5:45 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. Pacific Standard Time (PST) on Memorial Day along Beach Boulevard north of Liberty Drive in Huntington Beach. A man from Costa Mesa, 26 years of age, was driving a 2008 Chevy Tahoe SUV and collided with a 1975 Honda motorcycle ridden by a Newport Beach woman 26 years of age.

He had been following the motorcycle southbound on Beach when he failed to slow after she slowed, and he rear-ended her. The biker was taken to a local hospital in critical condition, but she succumbed to the injuries sustained in the accident on Friday, June 4, 2021. 

The driver is charged with a felony count of driving under the influence of a drug causing injury with a sentencing enhancement for inflicting great bodily injury. He is also charged with misdemeanor counts of possession of a controlled substance and destroying or concealing evidence.
