Car Bursts into Flames in Alleged DUI Accident

A tow truck driver in Palmdale found himself in need of a tow over the weekend – all because of a suspected drunk driver.

Kim Rucker, the tow truck driver, was headed northbound on 90th Street East north of Avenue O at about 12:05 a.m. While executing a U-turn, a Ford F-350 that had been traveling south collided with the right side of the tow truck.

The tow truck burst into flames. By the time authorities arrived, the truck was fully engulfed.

Though Rucker was able to escape before the vehicle became fully engulfed, he suffered multiple third-degree burns to his arms and hands. He was taken to Antelope Valley Hospital.

The driver of the Ford was identified as Candido Tostado, 59. He suffered minor injuries in the crash. He was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving. He was then booked at the Lancaster Sheriff station.

The accident caused 90th Street East to be closed for about two and a half hours.
